As above, so below – Matthew 6:9 (The Message Translation)
Even though Christian preaching often revolves around the topic of afterlife, Jesus did not teach his followers to only concern themselves with their eternal destination. In fact, when Jesus taught his followers how to pray the first item of concern was not that souls should make it into heaven, rather, Jesus taught his followers to pray for heaven to come to earth. Such is the Father’s desire for our lives. The following contemplation is designed to help us dig deeper into this aspect of The Lord’s Prayer. I pray that through it you will find vision and clarity for your day.
Faithful God,
In your Kingdom there is peace;
As above so below. (Pause)
In your Economy there is abundance;
As above so below. (Pause)
In your House there are many strangers;
As above so below. (Pause)
At your Table there is room for enemies;
As above so below. (Pause)
In your Heart there is compassion for the outcast;
As above so below. (Pause)
In your Work there is rest;
As above so below. (Pause)
In You there is forgiveness,
In You there is unity,
In You there is justice,
And in You there is life
As above so below. (Pause)
In our hope for heaven, Oh God of Love,
May we consent to its coming
here on earth;
As it is with you, let it be the same with me,
with us,
in this world.
Amen
How did you see this prayer being answered in your life? How can you say yes to heaven on earth? I leave you with this encouragement; those who seek to master their own lives will lose them, but those who expend their lives for the sake of the Kingdom will find them.
